To prepare the sugar syrup, place the sugar, rosewater, lemon juice and 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Stir until the mixture starts boiling, then reduce the heat and let simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Set aside.

In a small bowl, mix the walnuts with the cinnamon.

If making the dough:

Place all the ingredients along with ¼ cup of water in a bowl and mix well until you form a dough.

Then put the dough in a baking dish and bake in a preheated oven for just 5 minutes, until it dries. Make sure that the color of the dough does not change. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Then knead it with your hands until soft and smooth.

Mix the knefeh dough (ready to use or the one you made) with butter for about 15 minutes, until the dough absorbs the butter.

Arrange a layer usign of half the knefeh dough on a greased baking tray. Spread over it the walnuts and cinnamon mixture and cover them with a layer of the remaining knefeh dough.

Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, until the top becomes golden. Remove from oven and pour the sugar syrup over it immediately.

Serve hot.
